Agreement between Fingrid and Caverion extended to cover a new transmission line project

Finland's transmission system operator Fingrid Oyj and Caverion have signed an agreement worth approximately EUR 20 million for a new transmission line project in Finland, Central Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothnia. Caverion will build 400/110 kilovolt power line with a total length of 83 kilometers and 237 steel columns. The agreement extends Caverion's previously announced EUR 21 million agreement with Fingrid. 

"This transmission line contract with Caverion is part of a wider Lakeuslinja project, which includes a total of 400 km of the new 400 kV transmission line and several substations. Caverion has demonstrated its capability in several previous projects, which is why we are confidently expecting success in this project as well,” says Tommi Olsson, Head of Power Line Projects at Fingrid.

Caverion's Industrial Projects and Infrastructure Business Director Kari Aalto highlights the company's experience and cooperation with Fingrid. " We are very pleased with our strong cooperation with Fingrid. With our own expertise, we ensure that the Finnish security of supply chain is in good condition. During the last ten years, Caverion has implemented almost 50 power line projects of different sizes in Finland. We have received full quality points from Fingrid for previous power line projects.”

This new power line project strengthens the transmission capacity of Fingrid's transmission grid and enables efficient electricity transmission from Sweden and Northern Finland to Southern Finland. The project supports the supports renewable energy infrastructure, promotes the achievement of Finland's climate goals and maintains sufficient electricity self-sufficiency in Finland.

The project will start in summer 2026 and the transmission line connection is expected to be completed in 2028.
